Hearing Protection Act gutted by House Ways and Means, need a push.

Interesting read outlines the current rumors. Still nothing definite but for those contacting Congress, start reaching out to the Senate, they will have an opportunity to include the full HPA when the bill hits their floor.

Pretty sure Daines and Sheehy are on board with the HPA, correct?

Funny how the hunting industry is so quick to eat their own based on rumors from a few butt hurt YouTubers. I didn't know the source of the rumors until this morning. And they are just that, rumors.

Evidently it was enough for Silencer Central to send this email, a screenshot of which mirrors where they've been on this issue since the bill first popped up a few years ago.

When you think about it from a business standpoint, the lower the hurdles to acquiring a suppressor the more suppressors groups like Silencer Central will manufacture and sell. Without a $200 tax involved in the process, the more customers they will have.

Edit - I see @Wild Bill got the same email.

Point being, and I've seen it so often in the hunting/shooting space, there are people with platforms who benefit from putting rumors out there. They do so of their own benefit with little concern for the bigger picture.

Keep the emails going to Congress. This is the best chance we've had in my lifetime to get this passed.

Rumors and conspiracy theories have never been more prevalent. It’s disgusting. Good for silencer central for setting the record straight and getting in front of these trash rumors. Shame on anyone for repeating that trash without researching or checking into it. A simple phone call to sc is easy. If this doesn’t get passed now it never will.

UPDATE: Per Gun Owners of America they have been in contact with Rep Arrington, chairman of the Budget Committee. He has stated that the markup of the bill may be delayed due to the mounting pressure regarding the HPA. If you have been reaching out to Congress, good job. Shift some messaging to the Budget Committee and ask them to not markup the bill until the HPA is included in it's entirety. Pedal to the metal people, we just might pull off a come from behind win.

Without calling them to ask because I hate being on the phone does silencer central actually manufacture suppressors? I thought they were the middle man that sells suppressors and that makes the paperwork easier is all. If this would pass it would essentially make their services useless.

Both. They manufacture Banish suppressors (I own one and it's great) and also deal other brands.

They sell more suppressors than anyone, from what I understand. They have their own line of suppressors that is their big product. They sell Nosler suppressors, such as I use. They have a mark up on those, also. And they sell other brands. On their "SHOP" link I see they have 7 pages of suppressors from multiple companies - https://www.silencercentral.com/shop/silencers

They've developed the online system for approval to help sell more of their suppressors. I suspect if this passes, they are going to sell suppressors faster than anyone can make them. I hope it passes and I'll add to the two I already have.

If this passes and every mom and pop gun store can sell a suppressor with ease I think it will cut into their sales quite a bit. I know I’d buy local vs going through them if this passes.

The part of the process that pisses me off the most is paying for that damn $200 tax stamp.

I dont see that. If the market grows significantly, even if their share shrunk, they are still better off.

If their share shrinks why would they be better off? That means they make less money. Suppressor prices will come down to what they should be charging for a tube and some baffles. They would no longer be needed to do the paperwork dance except for the quick 4473. Go down to your local shop and fill out the 4473 and be out the door and shooting your suppressor in 30 minutes

From what I’m reading they are pushing to keep them NFA regulated but eliminate the tax stamp fee. Keeps their business going as usual. Hope that’s wrong but there’s a lot out there saying it’s correct.

Just an FYI if you see an image floating around of lobby disclosures worded as "develop and support suppressor tax stamp conservation legislation" in Silencer Central's name, it's not to conserve tax stamps. It was to divest tax stamp funds toward wildlife conservation - HR 6352 of last year.

Keep hammering those representative's comms.

In regards to silencer central:

I was involved in discussions where multiple conservation organizations were lobbying to get suppressor tax stamp money to go to conservation(PR fund) instead of the general fund. This was back in late 2023/early 2024. Which matches the timeline of the document going around the internet as supposed “evidence”.

While I was not directly involved in discussions with SC at that time, I know for a fact there was an effort to redirect tax stamp money to conservation, and SC was involved in those discussions with conservation groups, along with reducing wait times. SC has come out to be corporate sponsors for many of the orgs that were involved in the effort to redirect that money.

In other words. Silencer central has my support and confidence.
