I would like to meet some of you western guys. So if your on a cool stretch of road let me know. I'm taking a month off and just riding a across the north and taking the southern route back.

Should be fun Dave...never been myself. I plan on riding that country someday but probably not during bike week. You will really like the SG.. I went from a FXST to a Road Glide 3 years ago and have never regretted it...the new ('09 and later) bagger frames are nice.

be safe

Started a solo trip in 2010. from East Tn, made it to central Nebraska before heading south and back home. Due to weather, having two litters of pups ready to whelp and leaving my son behind I decided to head home. 3000 miles in six days, although it was cut short, it was great.
Little warm cutting across Kansas 115deg heat index.

I'm not much on crowds so my plan was to stay overnight at Sturgis and go further west to the Rockies.

If you are planning on hitting the motels on the main route, plan on paying more.
Keep an eye on the weather, you most definitely don't want to get caught in a hail storm with no where to go.

You will enjoy your new Glide. I went from an Ultra Classic( after it was stollen) to a Roadglide. After a few custom mods it was great.

The main thing is BE SAFE and stay hydrated.

Good Luck

This pic was the day I made it home. I faired okay for an old man..lol. The younger generation and the iron butters can have the more than 500 & 600 mile days.

This is the 09 I'm looking to get.
BirdDog I'll turn 59 on the trip, so riding something like this will be a bit more comfortable then the 1200 sporty. :)

Luggage rack is detachable, it has 7300 mile on it.

I went from 04' to 06'! Hot damn I miss the Full Throttle and One-eyed Jacks. Drink one on the third floor for me man!!!

I have been to Sturgis 3 times and all were fun. Full throttle on Wednesday, be sure to hit Hewlett for no panty day :) and there is a contest at 2 pm every day in Spearfish if I remember correctly. If you have not booked a place I suggest staying in Whitewood as they have covered parking , beer and stuff onside and a shuttle that will run you into sturgis at night so you can have some fun and don't have to ride after riding all day and want to enjoy a few beers.

Keep the shiny side up !

I spoke to my hunting guide buddy at Pine Ridge he invited me to stay out there a bit if I want. It's an hour away. I'm not thinking of a long stay , I want to head further west to S. Cal and then take the lower route back visiting relatives and friends. I figure about 3-4 weeks should do it :)
Thanks for the info.
There are 3 guys from here who go every year for the past 15 years and I can ride out with them.
