Which do you prefer red or green?? Which one gives better depth perception at night?

That’s definitely a per person thing, my brother and I hunt a lot of the same places. I almost always use green, he’s always favored red

My dad never owned a headlamp, he carried a mini mag lite the whole time he hunted. I still have it in the safe, sure ain’t no led…

I think green is brighter but red sometimes allows me to see more definition. Honestly I think it depends on the headlamp though.

Many have both so can get one of those and try them both colors and decide for yourself.

I thought headlamp color had more to do with what animals can see from a distance as you hike.

Red is the hardest to see at a distance, then green, blue with white being the worse.

If I was concerned about what I could see, I’d flood the trail with white light.

My tactic has always been when hiking in a few miles to start white, transition to red mid hike and go dark for the final bit. Hiking in the dark isn’t hard.

I've used the red while walking in the dark through clumps of grass and rocks and it seemed like the red gave me much less depth perception.

Anyone have a high quality red lamp they would recommend?
If your talking head light I recommend the Princeton tec it's red LED I've used it and lended it out to my buddy's for coon hunting and it's pretty good I think I paid like 25 though for it also it's waterproof so

Red is the worst color for me cause it doesn’t seem near as bright as green. I see way more definition with green and it lights up my bright eye tacks way further than red.

I got to liking green lights when I was stumbling around the pine straw-covered bottoms in your neck of the woods. Agree that green gives better definition.

Similar issues with me, I am somewhat red/green color blind, and the Red is a challenge. I use the green ones or plain old white.

Red attracts the fewest insects…so, that’s a win for me right there.

I have a Lampers Special (Peax) red/white I got on sale. The red light on it is much brighter than that on my Black Diamond Storm. I will probably get a Sofrin or two since they seem very comparable to, and much cheaper than, the Peax.

I buy and misplace too many headlights to spend much on them. Two for the truck, two in my pack, one in my blind bag.... you get the idea. For my uses the energizer ones that have red are good for the price.
