Hammer Bullets - what makes them so great?

After switching to unleaded years ago I was a Barnes bullet fan. They never let me down but had some kills where the animal went a bit further than I expected. After reviewing the terminal performance of Hammers and the accuracy people were getting I wanted to try them. I had a new rifle that I didn’t have any Barnes bullets for so I ordered some Hammers. I even emailed Steve and he was more than helpful. I shot a pronghorn lat week with it. It was further than what I would have used a Barnes on and the result was a a dead buck. Once I use up my Barnes in my other rifles I am switching them all to Hammers.
I believe I read on their forum that it is advisable (for best performance) to clear all the copper from a barrel before switching to Hammers from other solid copper (e.g. Barnes) and cup and core bullets. The copper on the Hammer Bullets is softer than other copper solids and cup and core bullets.

Please correct me if I got that wrong.

I believe that is correct.

You are correct. If you switch from shooting lead core bullets and don’t clean your bore you won’t have the accuracy you are looking for. I have experienced this and know others that have as well.

Have thoroughly enjoyed loading Hammers this summer. Definitely accurate and easy to load. Almost so accurate it’s hard for me to make a decision on which load to go with. That ES I have no doubt was due to my lack of truly accurate powder measuring.

Loved being able to call Hammer, getting an answer on the second ring, and chatting for 10 minutes about some issues I was having. Super friendly team up there.

My dad also ordered me some Maker bullets to try, also a pure copper bullet, little different school of thought with the fragmentation vs holding together.
Unless you were measuring powder with a shot glass, that ain't it. A full grain of powder usually doesn't yield 55 FPS of velocity difference. What's your fill ratio?

Very well could be my errors.

Using an old style Caldwell chronograph.
Powder is definitely compressed.
Old brass (new stuff was tough to find in stock at that time)

Think the powder was pretty accurately weighed on a beam scale.

In all honesty none of that crap matters for that gun. It seems to like the Maker bullets and I like not picking little flakes of copper out of my meat so that’s ultimately what I went with.
