First semi gut-shot ever today, quartering away, clipped gut, liver, heart, stopped in the far shoulder. Deer ran 40 yards and went to sleep.

Inside was full of grass. Packed him full of snow and emptied everything out a few times.

Pulled the tenderloins, washed and trimmed them. Do I toss em, or send it. No stank at the moment.

If it's a fresh shot and tenderloin don't have any blood shot, keep em. Only the meat with blood shot dark red to almost black is what I would throw away. As long as you cleaned them and got them cooled down they will be plenty good and tasty.

All the grass and seeds cleaned off pretty easy, no blood shot. Thankfully it was -18C (0F) this morning, so that helped the situation lol.

Might be a different story had you gut shot the animal and it laid overnight before recovery. Considering how quickly you recovered and cleaned it out, I'd have very little concern.

I have processed several hundred deer. I have seen almost everything imaginable at this point. "most" Tender loins that i have seen that were in bad shape can be cleaned up pretty well. Sometimes i have to trim away a decent part of them. But if it can pass the smell test and an eye test then i feel confident packaging them for the customer. There have been only a couple i didnt save a portion of them. And that was for a few other reasons.
