Greenland hunting trip

For all us salivating at home at your trip, what was the ballpark cost without taxidermy?

Pretty affordable really. Mid teens without taxidermy.

Unfortunately you're not getting any meat back from most foreign countries these days. One of our outfitters jobs is providing meat for Kangerlussuaq and many of the surrounding native villages. He provides approximately 120 muskox per year for these communities. Most of these are what he and his family personally take. I was very impressed with how well they took care of the meat and used everything on the animal including the organs and tongue. We did eat our muskox meat for dinners and lunches while we were there.

Well that’s a bummer, but at least it’s not going to waste.

I'd be pretty happy if I got a couple of meals out of it at camp. I looked at WTA right after reading your post, and it looks like you can find a reasonably priced muskox hunt over there.

It was an amazing trip! I highly recommend it!

Flights for me were over 2k. Hotels in Kangerlussuaq and Copenhagen were pricey as well (around $500/night). Shooting a second muskox and tips add up too.

Make sure to check references. Our outfitter told us of one of the less expensive outfits over there that charges clients by the pound to pack out their muskox. Literally tells them at the dead muskox, "if you want us to pack this out, it'll be this much $ per pound". Hunting concessions are not all alike either. We talked to another group of hunters leaving the same day as us that had only seen 20 muskox total. We saw over 300 one day alone.

I would pretty strongly recommend Shoshone Adventures over WTA. The fine print on WTA agreements is pretty gross.

@ashersdad , did you do a spring hunt and who was your outfitter if you don’t mind me asking? I’m gonna pull the trigger on Greenland and thinking to use Lings as my guide. He’s a bit more money but rave reviews vs WTA. I’m open to other options tho. I was thinking fall cuz I wanna do musk ox and caribou and he said even though spring is significantly cheaper; the musk ox don’t have antlers them apart from the young ones. Thanks for any advice!!

We did a Spring hunt because I wanted the Winter fur. We went with Karsten Lings and I would highly recommend them. I talked to some other hunters in the airport on our way home and their experience was dismal compared to ours.

One thing we did find out after the fact was the high cost to get your trophies back to the states. It ended up costing more than the hunt itself for the taxidermy and shipping to the US (I should get my shipment later this month). My buddy that was with my brother and I, only had his hides tanned and after getting the bill for the tanning and shipping he just told them to keep everything and just paid them for the tanning. So budget accordingly.

Thanks for sharing that shipping cost detail. It looks like a fun hunt but that might count me out. Glad you and your crew had a great time though.
