Gratuitous Bird and Dog Photos

No dogs in this pic but my first triple of the year…

Heard a BIG racket last night just as I was getting in the shower (at dusk). Thought the Mrs had dropped something unloading the dishwasher. Never gave it another thought till I asked her this morning and she said nope! Hmmmmm??

Fast forward to about 9 this morning, wife opens up the garage door and says “the neighbors dog is tearing something up in the front yard!” WTF?

Opened up the front blinds to see their dog tearing, chewing, rolling on a couple of doves on our lawn. A third lay dead in the gravel. Window gave away the CSI work, something flushed em into their own reflections!

Teton (the neighbors border collie) took his pair back home to mama 🤷🏻‍♂️

The turkeys are a bonus during our pheasant hunt. We typically run into them when pushing through brushy draws or small timber patches looking for pheasants.
The dogs disperse the flocks pretty good and things can get exciting when 15-20 uncoordinated B-52 bombers jump up to take flight.
Sometimes we shoot them on the wing, out of a tree, or ground sluce them. It is pretty cool after having the flock broken up to have a turkey hold in a brush clump like a pheasant and have your dog point it.
On my last pheasant hunt of the year (a couple weeks back), about 15 turkeys ran into my hunting area as I pulled in. Over the next couple hours I kept running into them, could have shot several. Alas... no season for them right now. However, it was the first time on a pheasant hunt where I could have shot multiple (or any!) turkeys so I thought of this. My dog is a pro at chasing them out of the yard, but I'd have been curious to see what he would have done with a wingshot turkey. But I'm still just a little jealous my tailgate pic wasn't a bit more laden with meat!

Great times with the dog this year. She finally started retrieving which I love.

The season ended much like it began. No birds thanks to some poor shooting. But the cover was all matted to the ground after a month of snow. So they really weren't holding.

One canyon was a bit hairy to get down. The dog was full on NOPE, so he got politely lifted down various ledges.

Good you're getting out. We noticed a rather surprising influx of young fit guys this year, actual competition after the first hour of climbing. Been hunting the same area for fifty years, found it interesting. My little brother, he's 58, said he actually got in a ridge to ridge foot race with a " kid" a week or so ago. He's never been challenged before. They lunched together.
