I went over to Charlotte this morning where my grandson was in a football camp at the local university and spent six hours in some of the worst heat and humidity in a long time. While he was going through the sign up/registration he got an e-mail from the football recruiter from West Point informing him that they had viewed his videos and were interested in him and asked that he keep the Army in mind when time comes to select a college. I've been trying to sell him on the USAF Academy, but I don't think he's too keen on the military. A few weeks ago his school got transcript requests from Boston College and Princeton, but they're a bit liberal for our tastes. Hopefully he'll get a good ride if this next season is a good one and his stats reflect his abilities.

Well gramps, you received some good new also. Give that young man a hug from another old curmudgeon!
I am proud of him as you already are!

Thanks Larry. In this day and age when so many of our nation's youth seem hell bent on pissing their lives away, it feels good to have had a hand in producing and raising one who is intent on doing all he can toward making a difference in the world.

Commendable news tarheel. A military career with West Point props ain't too shabby nor is a private career with matriculation from Princeton or BC. What position does he play?

He's the quarterback at his 4A HS, and was the starter as a sophomore and junior, so you know he's pretty good to have been the only soph on the varsity squad and starting QB. We have high hopes for him as long as he can stay healthy. He's still 16, 5'11" and 170 lbs, fast on his feet, good scrambler, and hopefully he can get another inch or two before he stops growing.

You have every right to be proud of that! Congrats! An education from any of those institutes will set him up for a successful life.

A big congrats to him....If he can get his college paid for your way ahead of the game called life.... Id strongly suggest dealing with the liberal mind set there if you have to,,,,,.It would be hard to swallow for me as well but look at the alternative.....

Congrats to your grandson. I ran track at Columbia University and our annual meets in West Point were events I always looked forward to. It is one impressive place.

Too bad you're a tar heel...now Wake Forest will never recruit him:D

...Congrats!!

Thanks! Actually I'm a resident of the Tarheel state but not a fan. My Mother, son, DIL, and niece all attended East Carolina U., so that's where my allegiance is, but I could support any school which pays for the boy's education.
