jr- that rifle deserves to be in the Upper Midwest sometime with you chasing big woods whitetails in a Double Mackinaw. Cool rifle! That said, I'd rather have your 284....

Evidently real men don't need recoil pads on their guns.

Is it a fun story on how it is new to you?

My first deer rifle and first deer kill was with a 99. Will always be in my memory what a cool, uncomfortable shooting gun it was!

Beautiful! I'd love to find it's twin at an affordable price

I accept your invitation, how's 2015 look?
ha! Wish I knew where to hunt some big woods! I could help you out with whitetails in Indiana, however you'd have to bring something other than that 99. Our goofy rifle rules in Indiana, currently limit one to a 1.8" case. If you trimmed them to that I'm not sure if they would still work through the rotary magazine. However, if you want to bring your shotgun, muzzleloader, pistol, or appropriate rifle I could possibly help you find a spot...

I love the old Savage 99--- My dad has one in 308 that was my grandpa's... A buddy has one in the 300 savage. Sharp looking guns!
