GPS...Touch screen or not?

I have the 64s. Cabelas had some great deals on the touch screen models this year but I've heard the touch screen versions don't acquire signal in dense timber very well which would render them useless to me for the most part. Keep it simple...

Yeah, this isn't true at all. I've never had an issue with my Oregon not locking onto signals within a few seconds or so. I don't see how the touch screen would affect the attena that is in it.

I would just like to reiterate: I have had zero issues with my Oregon 600 not being able to perform in just about any circumstance you could imagine.

Hmmmm. My Montana was sent to my by Garmin when they heard me complain about my 62 not holding reception in deep canyons. They promised the larger Montana would be way better at holding satellites. So far they were completely correct.

Interesting, I was steered away from the Oregon by sales reps at Cabelas who claimed to have used them in the coastal rainforest and had trouble acquiring a signal. Hopefully you get out here to hunt a Roosevelt bull soon and you can prove them wrong.

I have the Oregon as well and hunt dense foliage covered forest in the east with basically zero open areas. I have never had issues contacting satilittes.

i own the Garmin 64st, and wouldn't trade it for the world, lithium batteries are a definite asset!

I use the etrex 20 for hunting and the alpha for my dogs, I would say I would really rather use the etrex non touch screen over the alpha with the bigger screen.

I'm not just talking about dense foliage here in the Oregon Coast Range. What I deal with are steep canyons full of the tallest trees in North America. I've never had a GPS that can lock on all the time right away. I would really love to test out the Oregon and see how it actually compares to the 64s.
