Glacier National Park

Been there a few times and it is my favorite national park. With a family I would hike to Avalanche Lake as well as drive up the Going to the Sun Road/Logan Pass and hike to Hidden Lake. Lots of goats and sheep as people mentioned. This will be one of the best views ever. A few restaurants we enjoyed war the Glacier Highland Restaurant in West Glacier (great breakfast) and Serranos Mexican Grill in East Glacier.

Have a good trip!

Don't miss the goats and sheep at Logan Pass.

Iceberg Lake is pretty great. St. Mary's Falls are nice.

How far are you hiking on day trips? Anyone need fishing info?

I am up there in September for a wedding and have time for ~1.5day in the park, would love some info on fishing. Will have all the fly tackle along.

For fly fishing I would stick to either the Middle Fork of the Flathead on the south edge of the park, or the North Fork of the Flathead on the western border of the park. Both good fly fishing rivers, just pay attn to the regs for what you can and can't keep. Both rivers easily accessed.

right on, thanks a bunch.

If I must suffer and miss the last week of CO archery elk to attend a wedding, at least its in Montana! We'll be camping somewhere around Kalispell (location tbd).

Hey, I'm from Columbia Falls, just down the street from Hungry Horse. So far you have tons of good advice and options. My advice is don't try to jam pack your time there with tons of hikes. Pick any hike really take your time and enjoy Gods gift to us and you won't be disappointed. Also, you have the glacier maze area that has tons of stuff to do in the evening. Maze, mini golf, go carts, bumper boats, etc. And if you feel like some still made from scratch Root Beer (honest, it's made in the basement. I used to make it back in the day, until I realized that I didn't want to stay in the family business), stop by the A&W in Columbia Falls. Their are 2 locations there. There are only a handful of A&W's left in the country that still make it. PM me if you want and I'll get you hooked up with free floats. Oh, and Wild river adventures is a great company to go rafting with, not that I'm biased or anything. ;) Good luck and have fun.

+1 for a stop at the Northern Lights in Polebridge. Caught some beautiful cutts on the Flathead when were were out a few years back.

Have fun!

Great ideas and though we tried to take in all of the suggestions, we weren't able to squeeze them all in with our limited time out there so I guess we will just have to go again! :)

We ended up doing hikes to Hidden Lake, the St. Mary's & Virginia Falls, and Iceberg Lake and wanted to do The Highline and Avalanche Lake but were rained out of those trips.

By the time most vacations are nearing their end we are usually ready to go home but not this one, the whole family would gladly have spent another week out there without batting an eyelash. Though we didn't see any elk on the trip we did see antelope, both whitetail and mule deer, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, moose, a black bear, and THREE grizzlies.

As mentioned we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and hope to get back out again.

Thanks for all the input folks!
