The most odd thing about this, of all people to understand 2 sides of argument I would expect an alleged attorney would top the list.

One of the many things I was wrong about. Never experienced someone with such thin skin, and skewed reality of Montana Mule Deer Management.
Haha reaction. You salty old bastard. Engagement up

This seems like an ok move to make, honestly. And I say that as someone who gets way more reaction thingies than quoted replies.

Silly/offbeat topics don't have a lot of gravity, but it would be nice if serious topics that do have gravity got more serious participation, and people responded with thought-out replies instead of passive aggressive laughing faces or simple thumbs-ups reactions. I'd even accept more confrontational mtmuley-style PM messages if it meant more real engagement overall.

I first came to this forum as a place to learn things and share experiences - of course over time as I became more comfortable I developed a more casual attitude, but I still really enjoy the serious, meaty hunting and public land topics most of all. Being an idiot, I don't usually have much to say in them, but I do enjoy reading them. Serious threads on this forum can yield a ton of useful insights. There are quite a few members here who have a lot to say that can really make you think.

Certainly there might be an uptick in less-than-useful "nice bull" replies, and enough snarky/sarcastic replies to beat the band (this thread is demonstrating that, for sure), but at least those sentiments will have a voice now. I think there's value in that in and of itself.
TLDR but like anyway

I’ve liked, I’ve loved, I’ve argued and I’ve been banned. All the above. Never reported never will.

I will miss being able to like a joke, meme, recipe or sweet kill pic.

After being banned I gained far more insight by using PM’s and restraint. I’ll continue that.

I’ll try interacting more. I did just find out I get an extra night bear hunting this weekend. Thursday-Saturday eve now. Solo trip hopefully have some good chit to add.

Peace be to all.

I’ve yet to read thru 11 pages of comments - actually a reason for that - so my apologies if this has been covered already.

The most valuable part of 👍🤣😍 for me is (was) cracking into a thread with hundreds or thousands of replies already and being able to zip through it rapidly. Posts with 3 likes or less gets skipped, 4-5 likes I skim, and 6+ likes I will read the whole post if it isn’t too long.

With the new (old) system, it takes twice as long or longer for me to review the content, so for me it is actually a lot less overall engagement.

The humor threads, pic threads, and hunt journals are no different. The heavier topics and deep dives into important issues are the ones that suffer the most.

👍🏼

The lack of notifications from liked posts is already making me feel less engaged, not more.

The social media dopamine addiction is real. I admit I’m as addicted as anyone. But I also pre-date the intro of the feature. I know it doesn’t make or break this forum. I also know in my experience, the quality of discussion has gone down, way down, since the forum went to this new style. The more thoughtful posts have been replaced by a mob-by trolling cancel mentality.

Not to pick on you @Pucky Freak , just struck by this part of your post because I think it’s very common, but also an indication of wider issue in our whole society. It seems like we have abdicated or outsourced our agency to evaluate ideas, people, things on their own merits. Instead we rely on the mob to tell us what is best or valuable or good for us. Thats a dangerous power to give away. I *think* this is what @Big Fin is getting at? The willingness to critically think about ideas independently is disappearing, and I don’t think it’s taking us to good places.

If taking away some smiley faces makes people actually think about what others are saying even a little bit more, I’m fine with it.
