Football General Talk

I think they should have moved on from Mark Gudekuntz the general manager 5 years ago.

If you are happy with making the playoffs and bowing out in the first or second round of the playoffs you keep the status quo. If you want to take it to the next level and win league championships and super bowls you figure out what it takes. Lafleurs teams in his whole time as a head coach have not been able to play all phases of the game for the entire 4 quarters. That’s not the players or their abilities, that’s coaching. They’ve tried different coordinators and specialty coaches with the same result, at some point you have to look at who’s at the top and that’s lackeys and gudekuntz. The play of the offensive line during the first 7 games has been horrific, especially on run blocking. A running play means the lineman take the push to the defensive lineman. They don’t play paddy cake and get pushed into the hole the play is supposed to go through.
I agree. And disagree with all of this. You don't have to be the yankees or the dodgers in football. Some teams have stretches of dynasticism, but sooner or later, other teams come along. All that, high intensity, hiring and firing can give you the Cowboys more easily than it gives you a Superbowl. I think we tend to forget that somebody has to lose, if somebody's going to win. There seems to be this idea that losing happens because someone is doing a bad job. Thirty-one teams are not out there trying to do a bad job. I think it's pretty remarkable that the Packers, over their history, have played well above their market share. Lafleur is not a bum. In fact, I would say the NFC has an incredible collection of coaches.
