First round of draft...sure hope the Vikings know something I don't. Big guys that run hot and cold and have a lot of injury history normally slide further down the board. Looked great in the Senior bowl...until he got hurt, again. The Rams picking a QB early that may need several years when they are in win now mode with Stafford was a head scratcher too. The Hawks really reached for their RB.

I think there is good evidence to support drafting your next starting qb before you need to. Probably the biggest challenge is if your starting qb will accept it. I think Stafford understands his role.

Plus Stafford is 38 and was reportedly considering retirement last season. I think, if he won the Super Bowl, he might have. I like the move by the Rams.

Taking a QB when yours is old is one thing, but taking one that high is another. He would still have been available late into the 1st. He was not great at Bama and needs time. Comparing him to Rodgers and Love picks isnt a good one either...both were more accomplished in college. Both had several years to get ready.

They have always just gone for it though. Brought in Stafford giving up a pile of draft picks...and that worked pretty well. For them and Detroit.

Really good at finding mid to late round gems too.

Some of the expert pundits rated the Banks reach as the biggest one in the draft though.

They sure will with their haul so far, top WR and TE and good OT...add to that a really good edge rusher in trade (the Vikings Greenard) for a third round pick this year and next year. Would have liked to see a bit more in the trade for the Vikings but the cap situation savings is big and he'd be gone after next year if he can stay healthy anyway. Health was an issue for him last year.

The draft is always amusing. Instant reaction grades. Complaints someone could’ve been drafted later.

Pretty hard to make many definitive statements about any of these kids still they hit the field. Coaching staffs and team environments have a huge influence on a lot of these kids.

I will make one. A lot of them aren't kids. Average age is edging close to 24.

Agree with you on all the post-pick grading. Who the heck knows? This is why coaches don't last. GMs and scouts get some picks wrong and it rolls downhill fast.

The packers GM was talking in his pre draft press conference that the draftees on average are older this year. He tied it to NIL and kids who are not a sure bet are choosing to stay because they get some NIL.

I don’t think many do. The league minimum for a rookie is $885,000. I just can’t imagine the average college football player doing meet and greets at Teddy’s Auto World and making social media posts saying he eats at Bubbas BBQ buffet is making all that much. No doubt the top % are, but no way they are in the majority.

RememberSome ridiculously large percentage of college players will never get drafted at all. Bigger question is amongst those that do get drafted?How does their rookie minimum compare to what they were making in school.

I don't know about men in the football teams.But women basketball players.I think make quite a bit more in college than they do professionally.

And we all know that they aren't being paid for meet and greets. They're being paid as a way for guys with loads of cash to become players and hotshots and important people. Now, they just do it over at the table instead of under the table.

Yep. Also, the transfer portal has really reduced the number of really good unknown "sleeper" players. Small school kids who are good largely enter the portal and move to bigger schools. Some kids have played for 3 teams before they get drafted.
