Football General Talk

Not a Steelers fan, but Tomlin gets the nod. He probably had the intuition to go out on his terms. Good work Coach.
He was highly respected...and still quite young...when he left the Vikings years ago. My impression was he was far more cerebral and wise than his public words and actions portrayed. The reverence players have for him speaks volumes. He's still only 53 years old, but hes earned the right to make his choices.

A slightly more cynical person like myself might suspect that the team asked him to step down, so they didn't have to fire him and ruined their reputation for not firing head coaches.
This doesn't fit what the Rooney family does. And I think Tomlin has more pride and character to go along with it. Maybe more details will come out, but I bet Tomlin was considering this last year. mtmuley

Say again?😉
Well by all accounts and reports it was his decision to leave. My opinion was with making the playoffs with the missed field goal that the rooneys were not going to fire him. Three coaches since 1969 tells you that they don’t make knee jerk reactions, and I’m okay with that.
But the game has changed in the 19 seasons that he has been here and I think his message has just gotten stale.

Hard to believe Chargers won 11 regular season games with that offense. It was a tough call to pick most pathetic looking offense in first round- Chargers, Steelers or Bears (first half of the game)

I know teams think they should win the Super Bowl every year, but I doubt the Steelers or Ravens will find a better coach than what they had.
What are the odds they will find a coach that would win 1 playoff game in 10 years? I'll take that bet.

Art Rooney II would have let Tomlin be there another 19 years if he would have wanted to. He had complete control over everything and final say in everything. This was all Tomlin's decision.

I agree, but it was becoming evident that neither of them were likely to win a super bowl, anytime soon.
