First, if in your profession it was a well understood pattern and practice and everyone knew that folks didn't work on the final year of a contract without an extension, you would do the same.

Second, in the world there are about 12-15 humans that can instill any confidence that they can run a professional offense with any real chance of making noise in the playoffs, and there are 32 teams looking for that dozen, there is no way there are many willing options.

Third, I wish him a horrible career (for obvious reasons), but he does not appear to be a diva like his two predecessors.

This may be more of a reflection on his agent than himself. For true Diva designation, he has to act outside of normal football issues. Nobody is going to match Diva Aaron. Nobody.

He has a LOOONNG way to go. And he 8s no longer a football player anyway.

In recent years, wide receivers have been pushing the Diva envelope into new territory. Lots of competition for the title Queen Diva to rule them all, but Aaron is still my 1st pick.

You are very likely right - this is likely under direction and advice from his agent and therefore is more of a reflection of the agent than Love himself.

I get that he deserves to be paid and be paid well. He waited patiently without making a big deal out of the situation and when the time came, he overcame some adversity and quickly settled into the system. He is setup to likely be a top 15 QB this year and even a chance to be in the top 10. Like you said @VikingsGuy that deserves a good contract and he will get it. The move to "not practice" however just isn't a good view publicly and he would get more respect if the headline read "Love shows up early for practice despite GM failure to lock in long term deal"

I see your point, but Mahomes skews the data on this. Even he didn’t start right away though. For every one of him, there is boatload of Sam Bradfords/Josh Rosens. Then again, Russel Wilson’s career supports your point too.

His contract doesn’t become “expensive” from a cap perspective until 2028, at which point they will (hopefully) be working on a restructuring via extension.

$220m seems insane, but it’s more expensive to not have a good QB. In my opinion, the Packers feel they are going to win a chip in the next few years.

We will be able to see your theory play out the next few seasons- if JJ McCarthy or Caleb Williams win a SB before Jordan Love/or their rookie contract is up, I will send you a case of your favorite beer.

Peyton Manning and Luck were thrown in too.

As for Love, no player has been paid so much for such a small body of work - it’s crazy. 7 good games and he gets $55M a year. No one is even close.
