Fly Tying/Fishing Thread

Winter makes a good time to stock up on a few of the staples. Saved my own hun feathers this fall since I love a good soft hackle.

In my local rivers the Pat’s rubber leg has to be RL25, it’s almost like cheating.

I wanted to go break in the new rod today, but decided not to fight 50 mph gusts on the river. I’m terrible at tying rubber legs, so I now simplify and go with one pair of legs on each side. Elk don’t know how many feet a horse has.

I hate tying and fishing those too

Rubber legs are always royal PITA. I just tie the rubber leg in overhand knot and whip over everything. Seems to work fine.

Yes on the tungsten bead, but it’s a size 6 stimulator hook. I had a bunch and I like the shape for big nymphs.

I often lean more towards a sz8 or sz10, especially in the winter, but will have to give the big dog more of a chance. My rod has been collecting dust since Labor Day due to big game and birds and predators. Itching to get back out.

Fished for a couple hours on Wednesday with the pattern I posted ^.
Great when an experiment pays off.
Dozen fish to hand, wind whipping the lake.
I just had a feeling the iridescent yellow bead would be the ticket.
All chunksters 3 +lbs.
