Fishing from a Paddle Board

Don’t you need 4 or 5 tackle boxes to go fishing lol or is that just me

I used to think that way. Once I started fishing out of my kayak I figured out that I don't really use half of the crap in my tackle box. I started to only bring one tray with my go to stuff and some basic tackle.

Fun update - I was able to get out onto the water and fly fish this weekend. Beautiful evening too. Even tried “trolling” along with the lind trailing behind and the rod tucked into my vest. Have not tried landing a fish from a standing position. The kids definitely enjoyed seeing their old man out on the water

So here is a little better view of the trolling set up. The reel is tucked into the left side of my vest. Absolutely loved it out there w the fly rod. I’ll post some photos of the compact fly box and small tackle organizer I have.
And even better - no belly flops (yet)!!

Given the risk of losing my gear, I bought some “downgraded” gear. I have a cheap waterproof fly box with cheap flies and a cheap line cutter I hook to my vest. The downgrades cost less than 30 bucks in total, and there’s more than enough cheap flies to share w my fly fishing buddy who wants to take the other board out for a spin / splash. Plus now I’m sporting a kayak paddle which really boosts my speed and stability on the water (much better than using the paddle that came with the board).

I appreciate any feedback, thoughts, or experienced you all have to share!

Another fantastic time fishing off the paddle board. Able to get into a lot of shallow sections and find some hungry fish with my super cheap flies.

Even with the fall temperatures, fly fishing off the paddle board is going strong in TN! No falls yet though still haven’t tried to haul anything in while standing.
I took everyone’s suggestion to get tethers seriously and have tethers on my paddle, rod, and tiny waterproof tackle box.
Hoping to get out more this weekend w the kids - I’ll have to post one of them fishing off the board while I’m paddling them around - it’s hilarious and adorable.
