I had the opportunity to take my niece on a hunt today. she just moved back from Virginia and it was her first time hunting. Being she has not had an opportunity yet to take hunters ed but she has been in the field, sighting in her rifle and has learned how to carry a rifle she does not have a hunting license yet. Idaho has a passport program where a new hunter never carrying a license in any state is allowed to hunt with another licensed hunter with just a passport and required tags. Its a great easy way to get future hunters feet wet without paying the price to commit without knowing if they will stick with the sport.
Anyhow, we went to one of my old stomping grounds where I have had good luck nearly every trip in. It took a while to locate any deer but we finally found a group with a buck and it was game on. We first spotted them at 350 yds. We backed out, circled around a ridge and got to 200 yds. As we peeked over the ridge they spotted us and walked up the opposite hill side as they stopped she steadied with a good rest and made a perfect double lung shot. As he stood there she anchored another perfect shot and down he went.
I feel lucky that she asked me to take her hunting and it was a bonus for see her take her first buck.
