Finding elk wallows

Hey I hope everyone's summer scouting is going well... I decided I am going to just stay up around Moscow and hunt this year while I'm on school. I was just curious on how you all go about finding wallows, since glass won't work for me very well in the thick timber.

Your nose is going to be the best tool, other than that get out and hike and keep an eye out for vegetation growth in random areas. You'll be able to smell a well used wallow before you see it.
 
On your topo map, look for places higher up in the drainage, where steep grades make a quick change to a less steep grade. That's usually where you find a lot of springs develope. Then go out and do some checking on the ground
