I went to Knob Creek with a co-worker a couple of years back. It's something every SERIOUS
shooter should do once, but I won't regret it if I don't go back. The machine gun crowd is a little different group than the recreational shooting/hunting crowd, though of course they do mingle and mix. There were lots and lots of various military munitions & parts for sale, from AR-15/M16's through .50 MG's and beyond for those with the $$ and proper licenses...plus various other surplus stuff like survival gear, gas masks, vehicles & parts....
There were, naturally, a few black-helicopter types, but a lot of regular Joes, too. It was cool to see "real" military weapons being fired...my favorite was the GE miniguns.
The flamethrowers and so-called "homemade" napalm were interesting, too, but only in an academic sense (don't see much application for those in the civilian market!
). It was also interesting to experience the "feel" of the place...when the machine guns were firing on the line, you knew it no matter where you were. Everyone wore their ear gear everywhere, and you could feel the bigger stuff firing in your chest and bones from yards away...
bum bum bum bum bum. Like I said, interesting and cool, but not much there for the deer hunter.
Maybe a good Mauser or Springfield action or two, if you watched close.
