Extreme hunting pressure in region 7.

I’m going to give this one a bump. It seems like it is getting worse year after year. I took my dog for a drive this evening after work and it was incredible the amount of hunters that I saw. There is an over abundance of hunters and lack of game for people to hunt. Also have 5 plates became the new 6 plates?

The pick yer flavor conservation hunting fishing org plates are the new 6 plates.

The amount of antelope hunters combat road hunting on opening day was mind blowing. That’s what I get for looking then..

There might not be many antelope here, but I enjoy hunting my low grade local area just to avoid the madness further east. I found a few dinks that I didn’t feel like shooting, took a few hikes, glassed a bunch of elk, and drank beer, but at least it wasn’t stupid busy.

I like where I hunt them for mediocre bucks and no people. mtmuley

The bird hunters are even thicker this year than they have been. And bird numbers are down. Opening day of pheasant I literally watched a pickup with dog boxes and a pickup with a horse trailer pull up to the bma by our house and unload a horse trailer full of dogs and 8 guys. Then they hit it again the next day. BMA by our house is on its second book already and not even deer season yet.

I saw a lot of bird hunters too.

Maybe they should all pay 100 extra and get 5 bma days and then theyre done bird hunting on BMA?

The use to cost ratio is way out of wack - wouldnt you be triggered if you didnt pay a box of ammo for your antelope tag?

Wasn’t fwp trying to pass the first 7 days or something like that of pheasant was resident only?

Most pheasant hunters I’ve seen in a decade where I was. 5-10 years ago there were zero now 4 different camps in a couple mile stretch of state. Non stop shotgun blasts Saturday and Sunday.

On a positive note there has been a down-tick in the camper traffic.
Still stupid busy on roadways.
Keep telling myself to accept it all.

Hopefully the snow and rain knocks the pressure down some.

The bird pressure has been pretty high, even around here (not region 7). And opening day of antelope was nuts.

I get that I’m part of the pressure, but the grouse/hun opener was just plain nuts. Multiple rigs at every BMA parking area, with multiple dogs each, got cut off on a walk on a state piece, etc.

I contacted Sen Bogner last year and my region rep/sen about limiting deer tags and/or nonresident quota. Senator Bogner agreed that it was out of hand and needed a overhaul. I never heard back from my region rep/sen...
Its would be relatively simple to restrict your tag to a select region and limit the amount of tags like 7500 (similar to pronghorn). And in about 3-5 years there would be an absolute abundance of whitetail and mule deer. The habitat is amazing in Region 7 this year. It works for pronghorn and elk. Im seeing more pronghorn than since 2019. Deer are still about 70-80% from pre-2020 numbers, and right across the border in South Dakota and Wyoming there is an abundance of deer compared to Montana.
I would recommend to continue to contact senators or representatives and ask for changes in laws and contact the FWP/Commission for license increases in resident tags/license cost to off-set losses in revenue.

I was wondering how it was out there. Haven't been in 5-6 years now b/c it was so bad that I just couldn't justify it anymore for multiple reasons. I'm ok with not hunting it as often if it means the numbers improve. I'm probably in the minority outside of this forum though.
