It's Elk Week, so it seemed a fitting podcast would be with a long-time friend and mentor to my elk hunting, Jim Zumbo. Jim is now 85, but he is still as sharp as ever, even if his body needs some extra care. I first met Jim a long time ago at a seminar he did, about elk hunting.

Once we started these platforms, Jim reached out to me. Jim provided valuable counsel as to how to use platforms for the benefit of conservation was one of the principles of the original business plan. And he was generous in sharing his knowledge about how he had done that.

For this episode, the official podcast description below.

In this episode of Leupold's Hunt Talk Radio, Randy spends a day with one of his friends and most admired mentors, Jim Zumbo. Jim needs no introduction, having introduced so many of us to the world of western big game hunting. Topics covered include Jim using his platforms to promote conservation, his lengthy career as a writer and advocate for wild things, his commitment to elk and RMEF, Jim's mentorship to many, a lot of hunting stories, and sixty years of hunting wisdom from a humble man whose knowledge can't be adequately summarized in two hours.

Jim, Me, and Charlie Decker (RMEF co-founder). Two guys I admire greatly who have given so much of their time and experience to my benefit. A highlight of my years as an RMEF Board member was sharing that position with these guys.

I met Jim once in the Billings airport. Super nice guy we were returning from a breaks mulie hunt and he was returning from an elk hunt.

I always enjoyed reading his articles as a kid. Started the podcast this morning and am looking forward to my drive home to listen some more.

Can't wait to listen. Read a lot of Zumbo's stuff over the years and always enjoyed his writing. Have some of his books and will never get rid of them. The story telling ability good writers are gifted with is a lost art form in our hunting culture.

Great podcast!

My father was a bird hunter, had no interest in big game. Jim Zumbo’s articles in OL and his books are what lit the fire for me. He is a big reason why I took a career that could allow me to live in Wyoming. This might be enough to get me to listen to a podcast.
