321 gross. Special hunt for me. Last day of a grueling and slow week archery trip in MT with uncle and dad. High wind day so dad and I were creeping a very dense juniper and pine choked canyon. Spotted the last two points sticking out of the junipers on a bedded bull right on deck. Belly crawled in to 21 yards and all I had was a small window behind a big pine tree where I could see his vitals. Couldn’t see much of his horns and assumed he was a young six, being the last day after a really tough week I wasn’t going to pass him up. After a long wait he finally stood and I slipped one through the hole. He went 15 yards and tipped over in front of me. Dad and I walked up and were pleasantly surprised to find a heavy horned old bull with a giant body. Pretty deceiving when they get a big body like that, especially when the rack is mostly covered.

I'm going to say my Elk of a lifetime was not my biggest. Instead it was a rare opportunity to experience the highs and lows of a fantastic tag where I knew something great could happen, and the experience really changed the whole perspective I had on hunting as a whole. It made me consider whether fate was real, and how the gift of hunting with family and friends was the greatest gift of all. In the end it made me confident in my abilities to pursue elk and overcome the difficulties and challenges.
