Elk in Hoback, Wyoming

Yes they are there all winter on both feed and native range, that's roughly 10% of them.
 
Someone should do a quick cow/calf/bull ratio on that picture. I'll wait
 
This is only part of the herd I was looking at. It stretches beyond the hills where they came from. I think this is the beginning of a migration out of Yellowstone.
It is not, elk do no migrate out of Yellowstone in the spring. Also few if any of these particular elk will summer in Yellowstone. We don't have to guess, there is collar data. They are moving off of the feedground that's right around the corner from where that picture was taken. Feeding is done for the year.

That would be quite a feat. :)
FWIW bull cow ratios for this herd unit were @ 19:100 at most recent count, calf:cow was 30:100.
