Drought for the west

Saw this one blowing up yesterday afternoon from my place. 3000 acres in a day. Lots of grassy benches, drought stressed pine and fir, with a lot of standing dead trees as well. Warm today, front coming through tomorrow, with snow and rain Thursday. Could get ugly before the snow comes.

It's going to be a very bad season.

Everyone says this. But I’ve heard experts say you don’t want a wet spring and summer to grow big grass that will cause more/larger fires in late summer. For this and other reasons I’m happy with this winter and spring so far in Idaho.
Certainly true especially on the high plains areas. It seems like trying a "hope and pray" approach in bad situation. It's all we can do at this point.

Have a Go kit ready if you live in or near wildland interface.

Ensure your wildfire ‘Go Bag’ includes:

  • A 3-day supply of non-perishable food & 3 gallons of water per person
  • A map with at least 2 evacuation routes
  • Necessary prescriptions or medications
  • A change of clothes & extra eyeglasses/contact lenses
  • Extra car keys, credit cards, cash, or traveler’s checks
  • A first aid kit & sanitation supplies
  • A flashlight & battery-powered radio with extra batteries
  • Copies of important documents (birth certificates, passports, etc.)
  • Pet food & water
What else would you add? Tools, weaponry, rations?
