Been putting in for big game draws since the 70's. I put draws into categories -
Easy 25+% odds - mostly antlerless hunts.
Moderate chance - 8% to 15% or so - hunts that if I continue to put in for I'll get drawn.
Tough - 5% or so - maybe once in a lifetime
Lucky - 2% and less - We know about these - lots of them - money makers for Game Departments - some do go to the specific management of bighorn sheep.
Lottery - 1 in 100 and more... Quite a few of these too.
Superhunt tags - 1 in 5000...
I've draw some good trophy hunt tags over the years in Idaho. 2 moose - 3 sheep - 2 antelope - 1 deer - 2 elk now.
OK - The rest of the story... I'm on a roll.
Drew a bighorn sheep tag this year that had 33 resident hunters applying for 3 tags.
Then yesterday - pulled a bull elk tag on the 2nd draw which are all in the lucky category - 214 hunters for 2 tags.
Also - drew a bull elk tag last year on the 2nd draw too - it was a 102 hunters for 2 tags.
2 lucky's in 2 years.
Have maximum points for bighorn sheep in California - Those draws are starting to get into the 1% or better area. If I live long enough I'll pull a desert sheep tag in Cal.
Superhunt tag would be fun!
