my friends and i are looking to go archery elk hunting out here in colorado this fall but were not really sure on what units to start looking at and if we should try and draw for a unit or just get an over the counter tag for where we want to go. Any advice/opions would be great thanx!!

I would try for the draw tag, and get the PP if you don't get it, you will have a point towards the next year. you can always go OTC. JMO

If you are a resident, no sense in not building points and hunting OTC while you do it. When I lived there I hunted archery OTC and just applied for points while trying to figure out what to use them for. Plenty of elk in CO outside the primo units.... I hunted close to home as I could devote more time to scouting than driving halfway across the state.

get on the CPW website and start looking at the statistics.

Also, if you live in Co., you can go to units during season without a gun/bow and see if they are worth it.

You live here ? And you are asking this question
?
Why don't you and your cute friends get in your rig and
Do some checking what game units would be best!
I say you need 'johncushmaned'

Go hunt in 61 and then try scouting 101 oh don't forget 201
