My bride and I left a couple of weeks ago to drive to Denver to visit her failing uncle. Along the way I thought I'd do a short photo essay of the sights:

Unfortunately the trip was interrupted with a side trip we hadn't anticipated. Stopped for the night in Russell, KS, and the next morning my bride of 49 years woke up with her heart rhythm running away, cold sweats, shortness of breath and chest pressure. I took her to the local hospital which is just slightly larger than my house, wherein they installed an IV and hauled her 30 miles west to Hays, KS where she spent the next three days before I could get her released for travel to Denver. All the airline flights to Charlotte were sold out for the holidays so we had to wait that out. Bottom line: she has severe mitral regurgitation caused by her mitral valve not closing and thus the blood isn't getting a good pump out of the heart to the body which is going to require open heart surgery. We were able to get a direct referral from the doctor in Hays to a surgeon here in Charlotte. I drove back home and she arrives today by air and we have a meeting scheduled Monday with the surgeon, so hopefully she'll be from under the knife soon and back in the pink. Your prayers for her healthy recovery would be appreciated.

As sidebar; I did get to meet up with John Cushman for lunch in Rocky Ford on the way back. A real stand-up guy, avid hunter, wounded VET, and am proud to have made his acquaintance. The sacrifices of our Vets are too often forgotten or overlooked, but I appreciate you John.

I am sure your wife will be in good hands in Charlotte. My father had open heart surgery several years ago at Carolina Medical. I know people who have had surgery at Presbyterian Hospital too. They are both great hospitals. I hope she has a speedy recovery.
