This year I had a very successful Wyoming bow hunt and I'm hoping to return next year to try for elk and deer. I had so much excellent Hunt Talk forum help this year I decided to try my luck again :)

Currently I'm looking at flying into Denver CO early September and driving to Jackson Hole WY via the Sierra Madre mountains and Snowy Range. I would like some recommendations on interesting areas to visit along the way. For example a nice camp ground to stay at, good spots to see wildlife or any national parks worth a visit. Would love to get some local info so I make the most of the drive.

I am also thinking of applying for a Region W or D deer tag so I can break my trip up with a bow hunt along the way. Any suggestions / info would be greatly appreciated.

As always please message me if you want New Zealand hunting info.

I would recommend taking I70 West to exit 232 HWY 40 West. 40 West to Vernal. At Vernal take 191 North to Manila Utah. At Manila take 43 West to Mountain View Wyoming. From Mountain View head north. It's certainly not the short route. Several opportunities for camping!

I'd get a antelope tag for around Laramie before a region D deer tag.I've seen some good bucks in D but few and far between

Thanks worm, I'll check out that route.

Mixed bag, thanks for the advise on region d. I'll look at other options.

- Denver to Fort Collins, Gannett Ridge Hunting Equipment and New Belgium Brewery : )
- Fort Collins to Laramie, Eat at Altitude Chophouse in Laramie
- Over the Snowy Range via hwy 130, camp on top of the pass at SugerLoaf Mt Campground.
- Then to Saratoga and soak at the hot springs. Public and Free or Donation
- Saratoga to Pindale (Probably best to just drive, although there is amazing Mexican food in Rawlins.
- Pinedale stay at the Green River Lakes about 40 miles out of town but awesome camping and fishing.
- Pindale to Jackson, Eat a burger at The Bird in Jackson

All that makes me wonder what am I doing here on my Computer HAHA! have a great trip

Also I would love to trade for some info on NZ I can defiantly point you a few spots in Region D and or W for deer the area is coming back it just depends on what your goals for the hunt are.

Many thanks Tylerm, fantastic info. The route and suggested stops look great. I even have a great store to pick up any last minute hunting supplies :) Awesome facebook site too.

My goals for a deer hunt are to just really get out and hunt some beautiful wild western country. A deer would be a bonus and if I get a wall hanger that would be great too. I'll send you a email.

Saratoga wyoming Hotel Wolf......best hamburger I have ever had. The last bit of burger was still piping hot, either by MAJIC, or because I ate it so fast.

The fishing on the North Platte can be better than the hunting in September as the big browns will be ready to go spawning. You can get a feel for how well the fishing and hunting is by the number of personal aircraft (prop and especially jets) parked on the ramp at the airport.

Moms Kitchen has been a good stop for a diner-style breakfast. Real cowboys clear out before the tourists arrive later in the morning.

Thanks Kansasdad. Hard to beat a good burger! I have noted those eating places.

Heck if you want a good elk spot in the madres, shoot me a pm. I haven't seen many deer up in the mountains (bucks that is), but there are a ton of elk.

The mangy moose in riverside has cold beer, which is nice coming out of the high country after a few days.
