My little guy’s first deer. I hunted this spot opening weekend of bow season this year and knew this doe group was in there. Picked a spot on the ground down wind of their primary travel corridor and sat down after a bit of trimming. About a 45 yard shot off the shooting pod with a .243 shooting 85 gr Federal Trophy Coppers.
This beauty is a personal best for me, and left me ecstatic!! Awesome memories made on this one. My little brother and I camped on a bachelor group of small bucks the night before opener. All I wanted was meat in my freezer after 2 unsuccessful out of state elk hunts. While making a move on a forky, I bumped into this guy. Still can't believe it.
I took my step-son out for the youth hunt This week for his first ever time with him being the hunter. He hiked hard in the cold and wind, had a great attitude, and he made a perfect shot when he got his chance. It was a great time. Pretty sure I was the most excited when he shot it. Lol
My daughter killed her best buck last evening. She passed up several small bucks (some twice and 3 times), did a 3.2 mile hike to try and get a buck I spotted which did not pan out, and worked her tail of during both archery and rifle.
I was out for lifting, so I could not pack anything. We sat at water last evening and caught this buck coming in. 125 yards, into the brisket and he was dead in 50 yards.
My daughter packed all 4 quarters and loose meat on her back herself. She is feeling it this morning. Lol. My dad and 5 year old helped out a bit as well. The blood on its butt was from her dragging it a bit to a better spot. We found the bullet under the hide at the back of the ribs on the left side.
2020 continued to live up to it's reputation and screwed up my hunting group's archery plans in WY. With all of the fires burning in northern CO & southern WY fortunately I found a route up and made a short trip up for one day of rifle and was able to tag out on my first mule deer (3x4). Excited that my daughter was able to be there and it was her first time seeing a big game animal harvested. I wasn't going to pass on a legal buck since I was unsuccessful for elk and the freezer is empty.
