Killed this big fat 145 lb doe yesterday afternoon with my T/C Encore .308 shooting Winchester SuperX 150 grain power points. I watched her coming up a fire line behind some planted pines, so I already had the gun up on the rest and the hammer back. When she stopped broadside at about 40 yards, I squeezed off the round and upon impact it lifted her completely off of her feet and rolled her up dead on the spot. It got both lungs and the heart was severed completely from the aorta. This old gal was fat off of turnips, naked oats, and Austrian Winter peas, along with corn and sweet feed, she was the fattest deer I've killed all season.

Deer #8??? How many you guys allowed?

Must be nice to deer hunt that much! Sure wish I could :(

Most of the south is pretty liberal. In AL we are allowed 3 bucks and 2 does/ day for the season in most counties. Bow season starts 15- October and gun starts the 3rd sat in Nov, both run through the end of Jan.

The unit Pittsburgh is in has unlimited doe tags. I think they were $6.40 a piece this year.

There's never a shortage of jerky, hot sticks, and summer sausage in the break trailer at work...

No kidding! Is the hunting any good in Tioga county? That's where my wife is from

Not sure. Basically, Allegheny county is the only county with unlimited doe tags. I think there might be a couple units around Philadelphia as well, but that's the other side of the state.

I'd have to look at a map, but I think Tioga is north central Pennsylvania.

Our season is all weapons from August 15th to January 1st. We have no daily bag limits and no total limits for the season. Technically if a hunter were to kill just one buck per day, two does per doe day, and then utilize all of the extra doe tags that can be purchased; he could kill 172 deer per season.....not counting does with landowner tags.

I still hunt with the rifle out of a tree stand, or tower blind practically every day of the season. I also hunt with the hounds every Saturday and all holidays.

I've also donated 4 deer to people who need the meat so far this season; but Travis and I also eat venison at least 4 or 5 times per week, so every bit of it gets consumed. I cube it, make hamburger and sausage, cut a few roasts out of it, and wrap the tenderloins in bacon and cook them whole, as well as cut the back straps into stew meat and slice 'em to fry. As a matter of fact, I cooked a pot of spaghetti last night with some of the burger and sausage, and that's after having fried back straps Monday night.

noharleyyet, that's a big 10-4. The T/C has become my go to deer hunting rifle; the only problem is locating the Winchester SuperX 150 grain power points that it likes. I've patterned Hornady, Remington, and Federals, but none of them shoot as well as the Winchester loads. I've also tried the different weights and none are as accurate as the 150 grain. I've discovered that my Ruger Mark VII in .308 also prefers the same load.

Original Simmons Aetec. I have three of them one on my Ruger .308, one on my Winchester model 70 .270, and this one on my T/C.

Nothing wrong with the Aetec. I have an 'Encore 270 Pro Hunter in the Camo Thumbhole...reliable shooter.

I'd like to get a .22-250 barrel for mine, but I don't really need one since I predator hunt with a Ruger in .220 swift. Several folks I know like the .22-250 for killing does and it sounds interesting.

I have a Thompson question...how feasible is it to purchase the ML components? Might I be better off simply getting a complete Encore ML than buying a new barrel, foreend and switching for multi use?

EASY! IMO that's the beauty of the Encore. Getting a complete Encore only spends more money for the same outcome IMO. Return to zero after switching barrels shouldn't be much, if any, of a problem as the scope/sights are mounted to the barrel and not the frame.

That said, I wouldn't get mine from TC, but from either Bullberry or SMI. TCs barrels are for blackpowder and BP substitutes. Barrels from the other two can use the same powders, but can also use smokeless (ie regular rifle) powders as well. Easier cleaning and more proformance, but they do cost more.

See the bottom of the page for Encore pricing.
