To go along with the elk hunting poll... On average how many days do you spend chasing deer per year? Don't include scouting, I'm talking time in the field with a weapon in hand. I know a lot of us have places close to home or near work where we can be on stand for the last hour or two of an eveing or can get in a quick hunt before work, so take that into account...

I WISH I could get in 16+ days of deer hunting in a year. I voted 6-10, and I'm lucky to get that many days, with our entire mule deer season here being only 9 days. Many years it seems I only get in a day or two before I kill a deer, so that kind of brings the average down.

I try not to over do it, but I counted 33 days one year in the sign in book at the lease. Usually it is around 25 give or take. Life is Good! John

Not sure about '06, probably around 16. In '05 I spent 28 days hunting deer, between SD, MT and AK. I have three states this year and six tags, so we'll see what happens.

Between archery and general season I will get in 30-40 hunts. Now a lot of them will be just the last hour or two of light in the evening, not a full day.

Depends on how things go, what tags I draw, etc.

Last year, spent well over 16 days between AK, MT, and WY. I hunted deer 14 days in Montana, another 8 on Kodiak, Wyoming at least 8 days for myself...more than that helping others.

Probably not as much this year.

I think this year will be a little 'slower' than the couple years. Right now I think I have 9 days out of state, might work in a few more depending on time. I'll probably hunt deer here, at least 10-12 days in archery season, and 3-4 in rifle and muzzy season each.

I'd say on average I probably get around 30+/- days in per season.

I usualy get out 4-5 days a week, sometime durring the day eaven if it is for just a quick 2 hour hunt. We start Sept.15th and hunt through the 31st of Jan.

Like others, it's tough to call it "days" more than it is "hunts". I have a lot of local pocket spots that I'll hit only for a few hours (they are either there or not!) and then head back home (blacktails) but with mule deer type draw hunts its definatley d-a-y-s!

Usually, I spend about a week total on deer, including any scouting. I have a WY and MT deer license this season and I'll be lucky if I get a weeks hunting in for deer. I usually spend more time on elk, antelope, and bears.

I did a quick 24 hour scout trip just outside of Steamboat Springs, CO this weekend. I wasn't impressed -- didn't see a bunch of animals like I was told. Talking to DOW guys on the phone, they said animals should be everywhere, but that wasn't the case. :( At any rate, if anyone has any suggestions for good places (elk & deer) in this area, please PM me. I'd like to hike in a few miles and get away from the guys on ATVs. :D

Good luck to the archers heading out this opening weekend!
