Dad filled his tag with this beast today. It was 22 lbs., 12 3/8" beard (yes it's just one strand but it counts!), and one spur is 1 5/8" and the other is 1 9/16". It's not his largest, but the best one he has taken for a few years, and his third with a beard greater than 12". This old bird gave me the slip two times the first two days of the season. I hadn't got to hunt much since then, so dad watched him and figured out his pattern. He wouldn't come into calling and rarely gobbled when he was on the ground. We saw him four days in a row in the same area, within about 100 yards. This morning, dad got a late start and didn't get to the woods til about 8. He checked a field on his way into the property that we had saw him in. He was at the opposite end of the field heading over the hill to his old stomping grounds. Dad got ahead of him and ambushed him. I believe that this is the only way anyone could have taken this turkey. Congrats to my dad. I would have loved to have gotten him, but I'm very glad to see my dad's excitement at getting such a fine bird.
