With Corner crossing being appealed to the Supreme Court, we thought it would be a good idea to nationally get the word out on what's going on.

Ryan Semerad, the lead attorney on the case, will be on the call to answer questions and give an update.

If you can make it, RSVP and spread the word. It will be on August 17th at 6 PM.

Thanks for keeping us updated on this Buzz. I saw the headline about the Stock Growers this morning, but haven’t read the article yet. RSVP’d!

Appreciate you sharing this, Buzz. I caught a glimpse of the headline earlier but haven’t had a chance to read through the details yet.

Probably should have put a reminder up earlier, but the virtual pint night was pretty awesome. Ryan answered a ton of questions, gave timelines, etc. regarding the Supreme court case.

I always feel a lot better about the whole thing every time I talk with Ryan or hear him talk about the case.

Thanks for putting it on and letting us know about it Buzz! It was good to attend and be caught up. Worked out for me that I was able to attend the whole time.

I was planning to attend but was still driving home from a trip with the family so couldn't make it. Is there a recap posted anywhere or did anyone record it to watch later?

Buzz, is there either a transcript or recording of the virtual pint night available? Due to other commitments, couldn't tune in last night but would love to have a listen

There was no recording, this was just a chance for all those that have been following the case to ask questions and get an update directly from Ryan. I think a lot the questions were answered about how it applies to WY, the 10th circuit, and elsewhere in the U.S.

Also an update on what the WY legislature is doing on state law around corner crossing.

For those interested, you can watch testimony at TRW yesterday on the WY corner crossing bill starting at about the 2 hour 50 mark. Ryan Semerad explained a lot of the same things covered in the virtual pint night. He's a no-nonsense type of guy and a strong supporter of public lands and access to same.

What’s the timeline for the Supreme Court to decide whether or not they’ll take the case?
The process is called "granting certiorari," and it is typically 3 months prior to oral arguments, which are scheduled October through April, with decisions coming out early in the summer. 4 justices have to vote to hear the case, and of the 7,000-8,000 petitions that they get every year, the Supreme Court typically only hears about 80 cases. The cases they choose to hear are usually of national consequence, based upon a circuit split, or are on the political agenda of the Justices.

The odds of this going to the Supreme Court, particularly because there isn't a circuit split (meaning this is only in the 10th, and hasn't been decided differently in another circuit), are incredibly low.

I would also tack onto this the fact that the impact to America is extremely low. First off, for both public and private lands that share a cross corner are a small percentage of the American landscape. On top of that, this actually being an issue that impacts the lives and lifestyles of American's is a very tiny small percentage.

Ryan spells out the timelines in the video and at least one thing that could delay everything.

It's also a very good thing if this does not get heard by the Supreme court in regard to corner crossing and not just within the bounds of the 10th.

Honestly, I would cross a corner even outside the 10th right now...and even faster if the Supreme court doesn't take the case.

The last 30 seconds of that video make me laugh...Ryan, "I get that a lot", followed by a lot of grumbling from a particular Senator that should be happy about corner crossing.

Hilarious.

This is where I am too. Randy's podcast wit the PERC lawyer pretty much confirmed my view. If they take it, it is because they disagree with something in the decision. I know as hunters we want them to green-light corner crossing, but regardless of whether they take it or not, this court hasn't shown a willingness to be crystal clear on much. If they take it, I think we should all be ready for a very vague legal decision.
