CO front range fitness: Mt Morrison ed.

Just to clarify
20lbs pack means 20lb bag of sand/weight (I assume this must be it) in your pack of choice +whatever water u bring? Or 20lbs is the total starting weight? Meaning if someone has a 5lbs frames pack are they only putting in 15lbs weight?

I did 20lb pack, as in the entire pack and its contents weighed 20lb. I didn’t take any water.

I personally think your pack can never weigh less than 20lb for something like this. So if you bring water, it has to be in addition to your 20lb pack

I was thinking total pack weight of 20 and 60. You’re always allowed to carry more!

Showed up this morning and they no longer allow dogs so I had to pivot as I couldn't leave him in the vehicle. Hit up chimney gulch again with the 60#pack.

Bring on September!

These FKTs always blow me away. 24min to the top!
I was looking at the FKTs on the incline recently, and since that was brought up here, I thought I'd share..
I guess 16:42 is the alleged fastest ascent but it's struck for suspected doping. 17:16 is the next fastest.

The thing that kills me is the 24-hr record: 22 laps in a day...doesn't seem humanly possible

Anyone been getting in anything good? Too hot for the foothills for awhile now but the high country has been great!

Did the Pawnee Buchanan double pass loop a couple weekends ago and the four loops pass in maroon bells as well. Plus some backpacking trips with the kids = not too many miles but plenty of time with a pack on.

Gotta start to get more heavy pack time in as archery season draws closer!

Did you do 4pass as a day hike??

No, I was invited along with some other friends that don’t do a ton of hiking or backpacking so it was a two day hike - they intended it to be 3 but got the permit locations kinda whack and had to do it in two. Very pretty but also super crowded - kinda shockingly so. I think coming down the stretch between West Maroon Pass and the bottom there we must have passed at least 200 people.

Got one more in which will likely be the last before season gets going. Heading out to scout for bullwinkle and then season opens 9/6.

60# sandbag in the pack today. Started hot - around 84 degrees and weather moved in as I was on the way up. The light rain as I neared the top made it interesting! Not my fastest time but feel good nonetheless.

Good luck to you all as the seasons get going! IMG_5718.png

I've got about 2 more weeks of training until hunts begin. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to make it over to Morrison to post a 60 pound time beforehand. Maybe I'll give it a go at the end of September. I'll either be in excellent shape from all the hiking or wrecked from all the pack outs, so hopefully you don't see me post a 60 pound time after all!
