Cleared Trails on National Forest

I did work on a trail crew for the boys in green. Motorized trails are an entirely differant can of worms. In addition to FS trails, many of our non-FS trails are mining pack trails from the 1800s. When your trails are used mainly by grazing cows and elk, you don't see many complaints. Most of my trails are 3-5 miles behind closed gates.

We have a number of illegal motorized trails built largely by retired FS employees. Most connect old skid roads. They seem to have a lot of summer activity but are not usually in good elk country. It could be the pressure caused by too much activity by the motorized vehicles. I usually avoid those areas.
