Well, when I had our tech guys remove the like button yesterday, I surely didn't expect 200+ comments. I read some of the reasons why people want that button, so it is restored.

I still have my list of ideas about how discussions on this forum more useful, less distracting, and less of what at times seems like sixth-grade playground BS.

Some seem to think that the change I made yesterday was driven by folks hitting the moderation report button. Nope. It had no influence. In fact, yesterday's moderation log only had one reported item. The blocked spammer log was a couple pages long.

I appreciate folks expressing their thoughts on how they interact here. I sometimes use the like button, but try to add a comment if I feel it is worthwhile. Obviously, I am in the minority, at least among those who commented.

I'm the final decision maker on this forum. Like all of my decisions, any time I make a decision it comes with a reservation to change my mind in light of more information.

So, the like/dislike button is back. The concerns about maintaining the quality of the conversation still exist.

I didn't comment on the thread as I wasn't bothered either way, but kudos to you for taking on board the posters on the other thread and listening 👍

Thank you. It's nice to be able to like something without having to comment to show your support. Even if it was just a like button instead of all the emojis it would be appreciated.

I really like nameless ranges I’d of only showing the likes to the individual who made the post. Not sure how complicated that would be

Like!

Seriously

looking more into i totally get the motivation for taking out the like button with the goal of encouraging less BS on the forum.

definitely a logical step in that goal but i just don't think it was gonna work all that much. i spend time on another forum without like buttons and the BS pops up plenty. that forum owner just torches a lot more threads than get torched here, his threshold is quite low honestly.

i get the hassle of being in charge of this place and i apologize for my contributions to it at times.

It was a bit of a shocker to me to read some folks don’t read responses they don’t have a certain number of likes. I guess that’s a self choosing algorithm.

i mean, sometimes when i'm perusing a really long thread i'm late to i often don't even read responses until i see certain usernames. similar thing.

Just spitballing - but is there an upvote option for forums?

Having the responses as "upvoted" or "downvoted" without a trackable name might give the option to provide feedback without incentivizing responses for laugh reacts. Similar to reddit.
