I looked into it once. For Noncanadian residents it is kind of confusing. https://www.ontario.ca/page/recreational-activities-on-crown-land#non-residentsThinking about possibly doing a summer road trip to Ontario next year. I see they have public “crown lands”. I’m wondering about the logistics of just bumming around camping and fishing. Anybody have insights/advice?
Ya, confusing is what my brief research has revealed. Thanks for the link.I looked into it once. For Noncanadian residents it is kind of confusing. https://www.ontario.ca/page/recreational-activities-on-crown-land#non-residents
If you call an Ontario official to ask questions make sure to call the closest office to your area you are planning on going and get the individuals information. I’ve read horror stories on the internet, mostly about Canadian customs, of the rules being interpreted very differently at each office.Ya, confusing is what my brief research has revealed. How many did you get to bring back?Got back from Ontario yesterday, great trip as usual. Crew of (6) drove two vehicles, overnighted in Duluth, then Red Lake, Ontario and flew out the following morning early. Fished three full days and stayed at a great lodge where guides took us out each day, all meals were prepared, etc. Without guides, we'd have gotten lost, it's a huge lake with no other people or buildings anywhere nearby.
Walleye fishing was great and caught big numbers of them every day using heavy jigs tipped with a crawler. Caught a fair number of pike, but no giants this trip, biggest few were around 36". Even got out in the deep water and jigged up a few lake trout out of 75' of water which was a first for me.
Weather cooperated for the most part but we bailed out and quit early one afternoon as it was raining and pretty nasty. Every day featured a nice shore lunch with fresh walleye, fried taters & baked beans which is always yummy. Big lakes like this can get pretty rough and we had several butt beating rides across the open water on our way in.
On return trip we crossed the border and then hit Border Bobs for tee shirts and gifts to take home and overnighted in Duluth again and a long drive yesterday got us home. Took my son and son in law who had never done this so they got a good experience. Overall a great trip, will probably do it again next year.
