Has anyone on this site purchased State land from Alaska?
How did it work out? Did you get to physically view the property? Are you happy with it? I am looking into it.

I don't know if it was state land, but about 1955 I got one square inch of land in Alaska by entering a contest on the Cheerio box. Anyone else remember that?

Nikster, My dads Friend jsut got land in the AK Purchase. If I remember it right it was like 10 Acres for 10k or something like that. By the time he got it flown with a Chopper it was another 5-8k then the only way to Access it was with a Chopper pretty much. The price was right but the location sucked if you didn't fly He did get to Look at it, he got to put the 4 corners up, and he did like it.....

My mom was 5 in 1955.... I have clear recollection of that year!
Moosie(AHEM) Mr. Moosie, Your fathers' friend must be a Resident of Ak. I intend to take part in that program right after I gain residency. The military discount can also subtract loads from the overall price. I am taking part in another program. I sent a payment but have not heard back from the state-But I did notice my parcel is no longer for sale. I hope that is good news for me. We intend to use this piece as a cabin site. We (my wife and I) are going to start a business soon in Alaska so we will be looking for a bigger piece soon.

I've heard of a handful of people doing this, but don't know the specifics. I do recall something about the public having access to your cabin for X number of years. If this is the same program...which I believe it is. Like Moosie said, most of the property is very remote requiring plane access or winter conditions to travel via sled. I've heard what land is accessible close to the roadsystem is normally not conducive to building.

My advice would be to ask some of the sourdoughs at Outdoorsdirectory.

No, actually I travel on business with my family year-round. We have been to Ak 5 times in the last 4 years and have fallen absolutely in love!
