So I have been collecting parts kits and gun projects for awhile and really need to do something with them.
Calibers we have already
17 remington
223
6x45
22-250
243
6mm remington
300 savage
300 blackout
30-06
7mm rem mag
First up a 1903A3 springfield drill rifle. I have removed the barrel and cleaned up the action. I have a new bolt for it. I was always going to put it back to military configuration but I picked up a nice example at the CMP South store. So I want to do something with the action. I hunt with a Ruger 7mm Mag my grandpa bought when I was 14 it's my main rifle. My son has laid claim to the ruger american 243. I don't "need" any other rifles I have plenty of varmint and predator stuff but a smaller caliber for antelope and deer wouldn't bug me. I have thought about either a 6mm remington or a 25-06 or even a 6.5x55. But, I have also always wanted a 35 whelen so I wouldn't be mad at that either.
Next up is a Czech 98 mauser. the last 4 inches of barrel are pretty rough. It was sold as a parts gun. I have a spare bolt and it is my sons gun. He has the ruger 243 and a Browning 30-06. Do I put it back together and shoot it? He has a really nice stock that needs to be finished for it if he wanted to build a rifle. I know barrels are pretty easy to find for the mauser. What would be a good option on this action? 358 winchester? Back to original?
Then I have a couple PPS kits I need to finish in 9mm And a Cetme C and a G3 kit but that is all pretty straight forward. I know putting barrels and stocks on the old actions wont make monetary since but I wouldn't mind putting them to use. Also how hard is it to put a barrel on?
