Budget trekking poles

Kinggear carbon fiber with cork handles and flip locks for $40 have served me and the boys well over the last six or seven years.

But ya, I probably use my trekking poles more as a front rest than I do hiking. They come out for pack-outs and that’s about it.

They keep dangling the carrot of over the counter with a 4473 and I keep waiting… Hopefully Montana will be on the list after the next legislative session.

I used and busted most all of them. I’ll be buying another pair of the carbon flick locs from black diamond. Most bang for the buck. It will be my 3rd pair of that kind. They used to replaced snapped segments for cheap but no longer do that.

Saw a video the other day where one of those insta guys used his to hold a leg up while skinning seems like a decent idea ran the leg thru the wrist strap

Whatever you go with, I wouldn't recommend expensive ones. I've fallen on mine, had them snap in between rocks, forgotten them on a hillside and also lost them. I'd rather have a pair of $50 ones with an extra pair or 2 at camp versus just 1 pair of $150.

And I’ll second or third the recommendation for cork grips. If you’re not wearing gloves and sweat a lot, they are way better than plastic.

I have a pair of LEKI carbon poles and they are going on year 15. I have gotten them stuck in rocks, slipped on them, packed out animals, backpacked, fished, pitched tarps with them, and so far, my favorite poles.
I have a pair of BD's but one of them always slips from the first adjustment, so I need to send them back.
Comfy grips, carbon or carbon/aluminum combo, flick lock and a 'trekking basket' (i.e., no chest spearing tip) is the way to go. They will last longer than you think.

I've got about 8 years on a pair of these. I think I paid $40 for them. No complaints.

I've seen people snap a shitty cheap trekking poles on the first day of using them. Shitty poles are on par with things like shitty boots, or shitty binoculars.

Folks recommending garbage are clearly folks not ever needing to rely on them or are mostly likely just taking leisure hikes where they're not really needed anyway.
