Buck hanging with fawns?

On the route I take to and from work, through the Cuyahoga National Valley, it is very common to see all kinds of wildlife. For those of you that are not aware, it is a 30+ thousand acre refuge in Northeast Ohio.

The past two days I have seen two fawns with an adult deer, that has antlers in velvet. They kind of look like lollipops. Straight-ish, with bulbous tips.

It hit me yesterday. Could this be a doe with weird antlers? I have heard this can happen, but is pretty rare.

I'm going to throw my camera in the truck and see if I can get some pictures.

Did you get any pictures? It sounds like you did see the rare doe with antlers.

It could just be a minor-attracted buck.

No pics. I saw them one more time, and have not seen them since.

It could be a doe with antlers even if that is extremely uncommon. However, I see young deer with other young deer fairly frequently when it's near birthing season. If they don't have spots, they are probably just late ones from last year. Males are typically quite a bit larger and that could make them appear much older.

I worked late tonight and ran across them. She/he is still with the fawns and the goofy horns have gotten goofier. Passenger side has gotten longer but driver’s side has not. It really screams doe to me. I didnt have my camera, so only cruddy cell phone pics.

You sure that’s not a doe with antlers. They typically grow a funky little set of spikes like that. Not that I’ve seen lots of them but the couple I have seen had weird unsymmetrical spikes like that.

I had one feed out in front of me at about 25 yards a few years ago and I thought it was just a little buck that looked weird. Then she peed…
I spent an hour staring at her through binoculars and watching her. I finally stood up and backed out and she caught my movements and started blowing at me.
I sometimes wish I would have not let her walk. It’d be cool to have an antlered doe euro.

Somewhat related: I sent this photo to a friend and he replied, “Nice Buck”…not realizing that it is an archery target. A bit more symmetrical than the deer in question and no velvet.
