I had one get blown up when it hit the deck while my wife was dusting it. Took it out to tru life in laurel they fixed it up nice. If you want a good guys number in Billings let me know
This is an elk I mounted as I described.I've made a few plaque mounts, where you screw and bondo the skull cap to a small piece of plywood that, more or less tear drop/heart shaped, then use paper mache to build a mold/form around it, similar to what Brute posted above. Then stretch a piece of leather around it and screw it to a nice oak plaque. Glue black lace bordering around the antler bases and the base or the mache form. I'll try to post some pics later of what they look like.
