Bozeman: is it really that bad anymore?

That’s literally what happened to me.

I asked the owner of the entire subdivision whom we built homes for and I’d grown close to (Contributed to my wedding), sell some of us a home for an affordable price or we’ll be priced out. We started off selling these houses for 250k now we’re building the same house same subdivision and selling em for 800k, sell us one for 300 so we can continue raising our families here or we will all be cooked! What’s the difference to you?!

His response was,
“The difference, is about $450,000…”

Money talks and BS walks 1000 miles…

Well, our deer friend Gerald will say I don’t know what I’m talking about, but that’s profit. The cost went up for demand and in the GRAND SCHEME of things, COVID inflation hurt but didn’t hurt to the point of charging 800k for a 200k home and call it scraping by. These homes were sold sight unseen, most of them. These same homes sold for over 1m in the next subdivision over, near black bull….. built em with the same guys. 1 week/per.
 
Our home was built in 1990 for 150k. Somehow it had appreciated 10x over 30 years. We sold it and moved 40 minutes outside of BZN. Couldn’t pay me to move back to BZN. 1-2 million to be in a subdivision and close enough to your neighbor that you could pass him toilet paper. Enjoying the new living room view..


We told our realtor that we would like to sell our home to a local family and would be willing to cut the price if so. We were told that a local growing family was highly interested. We ended up settling 50k off the listing price and left them a practically new hot tub (15k). Couple months later I had a warranty issue with a product and it was sent to our previous address. A local property management company and prior patient of my wife called and informed me he had my package. Out of curiosity, I asked him how the new family was enjoying the home. There was an awkward pause at first. He then proceed to tell me a couple from Santa Barbara, CA purchased the home as an investment and was charging a $600 daily rate on Airbnb. I’ll just say, if the realtor was a man, I would have punched him in the face.
