I have lusted over this particular rifle for more than 30 years. Bought it from a good friend, my brother from another mother. He has Parkinson’s and doesn’t hunt any longer.
It’s a Ruger number 1, Mannlicher stock, 7x57, 20” barrel. Next, I need brass as I have Redding dies. Guess this will not be a safe queen as it has history. This is one of my bucket list rifles that I did NOT need, but need has nothing to do with it. So, embarking on a new adventure. More later. MTG

This 7x57 will be a WT stalking rifle. My old age Makes slow stalking easier all the time. If I will group 1” at a hundred I will be happy. Have read that these can be finicky. I’ll work up some loads.
My friend, Steve, would not even let me handle this rifle in the past. Was afraid I would not give it back. He finally relented and has sold it to me. It will be cherished and not a safe queen. It’s meant to be hunted. To put venison in the freezer. To continue its life as a hunter. MTG

MT,

Nice piece of heritage there. The 7x57 will do anything you really need to do this end of the 48.

Look to some H4350 and a 139 bullet. 2700 fps will do any deer or bear in the lower 48.

7x57 simply works. Kinda like the .308 and ‘06…they just work.

I bought one 3-4 years ago and it has since become my favorite rifle!! Here’s the load I ended up w; maybe something for u to start w. Between me n my 2 grandsons…she’s already stacked up an impressive amount of whitetails n pigs

That’s just about perfect. I’ve got a 22 Hornet of the most recent vintage and would love to get a 7x57, or 243/308 to go along with it.
