Black Hills Buck

Nice deer, most people in the Hills unit wouldn't pass that one up. There are bigger but as said, fewer and farther between. I shot a 144 with bow a few years ago. Live weight would have been at or over 200. He was probably 5-6 yrs old. Yours would be in that area. I've seen a 25" whitetail come out of the Hills but they are pretty rare as well. Surprisingly, the #2 non typical came out of the south west Hills years ago if I remember right. Numbers still seem to be down this year. I believe they shift their home ranges to take advantage of better forage.

We hunted just across the line this year on public. Seen lots of cookie cutter 8s only one 10 on private. I'd say that's a darn nice buck compared to the deer we saw.

I think that is a really good Hills deer. I harvested a small 5x4 out there two weeks ago and saw almost exclusively small deer. Nicely done!
