Had a great time in the Black Hills of South Dakota and found one too pretty to pass up. He taped out at 127 7/8" and I honestly thought he'd be in the 130's seeing him on the hoof. Being a first timer to the Hills I was amazed at how small his body was even though he dwarfed the other deer he was with. I caped him out but I'd love to get some perspective from folks that may live in or have hunted the Hills before, how "good" of a buck is he and shoot me straight as I'm looking to get calibrated on these Hills bucks.

Score doesn’t matter to me, but if his eye guards followed the pattern of his other times he’d be up near 140. Do the bucks tend to be 4 points there? How old do you think he was?

I'm trying not to get too wrapped up in the score, but I added it as that's how we measure "good". I never saw a 5 point when I was out there, but I do see plenty of them posted on social media. And I agree, I wish his brows got the memo that his G2's did!

Great buck though! Euro?

That's a good hills buck! Pretty typical size as well. They just don't get as big living in the hills without the ag for forage. You'll find some bucks that are maybe a little bit heavier and maybe some more junk on the antlers, but I'd shoot that buck about every time.
Congrats!

He's a decent buck for sd, but I only European bucks that size. Have shot a couple around that size and have only done euros.

There exists much bigger bucks in SD for sure, but I've never seen them in the hills to be honest. So from a hills perspective I'd say above average in size

That's a dandy 4 point from that area. If he had a 5th, he'd be damn close to a 150" deer.

Contrary to Hunt TV, Texas, and/or high fence, 150" is a damn fine public land Whitetail and ~130" is too.

Well done!
