Cowboy State Daily:
"A 70-year-old woman from Canada is dead after being attacked by a bison on a popular hiking trail in Custer State Park in western South Dakota, marking the first fatal bison attack in the park in at least 21 years."

Guessing the bulls perceived pressure from the couple walking on the trail behind them. Preventable? Tragic for sure.

Very sad.

We were out in CSP last weekend and there were 5 big old bulls right in the exact area described in the story. I’d imagine it’s quite possible it was one of those bulls. Maybe even this one, here.

I don’t think this was a typical idiot attempting to get close to them.

Hmm...seems strange and sad that the husband would take cover behind a tree and not keep his wife safe first. :(

Not saying I would do what he did, but the only difference in the outcome would more than likely be 2 casualties instead of 1. Running at a bison yelling boogie woogie woogie probably won't do much. He has to live with his decision, not gonna make judgement on him.

You weren't there. You got the balls to jump in front of a charging bison? Tragic situation. I'm always intrigued by the armchair shit around these stories. mtmuley
Oh hell, just bulldog the old boy. I bet he will just roll over.....staying safe also provides opportunity to provide whatever medical that maybe sustain life. The second round from the bull was the obvious death bell. Could they have not continued? Sure but who anticipates this response when prob no experience with dangerous animals to start with. Heck, buffalo are really not viewed as dangerous by most. It's just a big fluffy cow.....BTW, I have that T shirt "Don't pet the fluffy cow" with buff picture. Poor bastard is going to have nightmares of his wife being stomped into pate in front of him.

I grew up around cattle. They are dangerous enough. Ask Steve. Had some rodeos. mtmuley
