Okay, I'm working on finalizing my plans for my Bighorn Sheep Taxidermy mount. I'm leaning toward a wall pedestal mount with some rocks around one side of it. I'm getting replica horns done for the shoulder mount and then keeping the original euro mount so that it can be handled.

I've been looking around and have a couple examples of what I'm thinking on the shoulder mount. I wouldn't have any foliage, just the rocks. Would have the taxidermist try to paint the rocks to make them look like the area that I shot him.

Here's a couple of the examples.

I would try to have him replicate the rocks from the slide where I first shot him and where we ended up packing him out through.

For the euro mount I'm thinking of something like this with the same style of rock that would be with the shoulder mount. I thought about combining it into one piece but I think having them separate would give me more options.

I am running out of room for taxidermy at the house but think I have a prime spot for this one. I would put the shoulder mount up a little higher and then the rock with the euro down and to the side a little bit where you could easily pick it up off the fake rock.

I already have the lifesize mountain goat mount and only did enough cape for the shoulder mount so I could do a pedestal mount but I like the wall pedestal a little better for this for some reason.

Any thoughts? Anyone with other options I haven't thought of?

Doing my audad with replica horns on a pedestal with the true euro on it I think looking at the mount and holding the horns helps people appreciate how cool sheep actually are. I never had much interest till someone handed me a euro one day

There are 3 animals if I ever have the opportunity to harvest they will be full body, no questions asked, and I’m prepared to sell feet pictures if I have to to afford it.
What 3 animals? For me the only 100% full body I thought I had to have was the mountain goat. I guess if I ever shoot a mountain lion that would need to be full body though.

I could have afforded to do a full body on the sheep but just didn't see the full body as a critical part of the sheep compared to the mountain goat, and I'm even thinking maybe I should have just done a shoulder mount on the mountain goat as much space as he takes up. On my sheep I should have thought of doing something with the nut sack like Carl did though, darn near could use one for a beanie.

If I ever shoot a moose I'm doing a euro on it. I'm just not a fan of how big they are and wife thinks they are ugly.

Any sheep, mountain goat, mountain lion.
To be clear, I was just guessing Gellar's. I have a lifesize mountain goat and am probably done, regardless. I didn't even mount my bighorn sheep...just euro.

Here is a sheep mount I had saved with a slightly different rock option. May actually be from a member here. I've had them saved for a long time.

What @Oak said. To me the terrain that sheep and goats live in are as much as the trophy and really displaying that would be my logic behind the full body. The long hair on a goat as well as the stunning white fur of the goat or a Dall sheep. And the muscle definition through sheep’s shoulders and their bodies. A cat I would get a gnarly tree going up the corner with a limb shooting across the room with the lion laying on the limb with his legs and tail draped down like he’s taking a lazy nap.

I really like the look of a bleached moose skull contrasting the dark palms of the antlers.

I like that one. Thanks.

I really like the look of that euro mount on the rock! I might do the same with an aoudad skull that I haven't boiled out yet.

I prefer the euro ram skull mount. The hide is not very interesting. The pronghorn and the mountain goat are the most interesting trophies for a mount, in my opinion, in North America. I would never do larger than a shoulder mount, though, as the shoulder mount captures the majesty of the pronghorn coloring and mountain goat fluff factor.

There are no wrong answers. Is your museum to curate.

I shot 8 animals in Africa and shoulder mounted three: sable (pedestal), impala and gemsbok. Those were the three which were striking as shoulder mounts.

Had euros of Cape buffalo, kudu, blesbok, blue wildebeest and nyala. The nyala was worthy of a shoulder mount but wall space was getting tight and we may downsize in a decade so am facing tough decisions down the road on what will still be displayed.

The nyala hide made amazing pillows for the living room as did the blue wildebeest. Had 16 pillows and a shave kit made from the 8 critters and still have hide for another half dozen pillows.

I know a guy that got a full mount of a giraffe. I have never owned a home where the giraffe would have fit. Looks great. A good choice for him.

Definitely agree with the replica horns. I have my euro with a simple skull hook here in Denver and used the replica horns on the shoulder mount at the cabin. I loved it so much I am doing that for my oryx from last year (which I hope to be getting back anytime now). IMG_2589.jpegIMG_2593.jpegIMG_2239.jpeg

I’ve already dropped the skull off to get the replica made.

Haven’t 100% decided if I’m going to just get the one made to put on the shoulder mount or if I’ll get a 2nd replica that will be a full euro to have at my office. 2nd one is half the cost since they already have the mold.

Only negative to the full euro replica is that the inside of the sinus area is solid instead of hollow like it should be.
